Why does Lennie accidentally kill Curley's wife? And what does Lennie think about what happened?

In OMAM, part 5/6, Lennie sits in the barn with the dead puppy that he accidentally killed. Slowly and quietly Curley's wife creeps behind him and Lennie has to quickly cover up the dead puppy. Lennie and Curley's wife then have a long conversation mainly about Curley's wife's life and the life that she could've had. A little while later Lennie tells her that he likes to pet soft things. Curley's wife tells him about her hair and how thin and soft it is. She "[takes] Lennie's hand and put it on her head. 'Feel right aroun' there an' see how soft it is. Lennie's big fingers fell to stroking her hair. 'Don't you muss it up,' she said" (90) Letting Lennie pet her hair is a big mistake he might do something to ruin the moment or just do something so bad to mess EVERYTHING up. Like maybe he might have to leave the farm? Well yes he does, he doesn't let go of her hair when she tells him to. She "...jerked her head sid...

Why is Crooks so mean to Lennie in the barn?

In OMAM, part 4, Lennie enters the barn looking for his puppy, he stumbles upon Crook's room and finds Crooks sitting on his bunk. As soon as Lennie enters, Crooks immediately wants to know why Lennie is nosily peeking inside and smiling. Crooks said sharply, "'You got no right to come in my room. This here's my room. Nobody got any right in here but me'" (68). Lennie's smile starts to fade after the harsh manner that Crooks speaks to him in telling him he has no right. After the conversation goes on Crooks begins to notice Lennie's intellectual disability and he starts to mess with Lennie. His face lightens with pleasure because of his torture, Crooks suggests to Lennie that "George went into town tonight and you never heard of him no more.' Crooks pressed forward some kind of private victory. 'Just s'pose that,' he repeated" (71). Crooks really doesn't want to be mean, he just wants and desperately needs a friend. He has...

What does Lennie think of Curley's wife? And what is he told by George?

In OMAM, part 2, Curley's wife comes in the scene at the bunkhouse. She says that shes looking for Curley while also showing herself off the other men. Lennie "watched her, fascinated" (31). As soon as she left Lennie "still stared at the doorway where she had been. 'Gosh, she was purty'" (32). After she leaves George tells Lennie to stay away from her because she is dangerous and she could get him in big trouble especially if Curley found out that Lennie was looking at her thinking about how pretty she is. George doesn't want to risk loosing another job because of Lennie's foolishness. But Lennie is just too innocent to cause any harm he states that "'[He] never meant no harm...Honest I never'" George tells him gross and things that will make Lennie scared of them so that he stays away and suddenly "Lennie [cries] out...'I don' like this place, George. This ain't no good place. I wanna get outta here'"...

What does Slim think of Lennie? (End of Part 3)

In OMAM, part 3, George and Slim go into the bunk house together and start up a conversation about Lennie since Slim recently saw him work. Slim now sees how "Maybe [Lennie] ain't bright, but [he] never seen such a worker. He damn near killed his partner buckin' barley. There ain't nobody can keep up with him. God awmighty I never seen such a strong guy" (39). Slim now knows how strong Lennie is but also about how he has an intellectual disability. He begins to wonder why George and Lennie travel together. He thinks that its funny how "a cuckoo like him and a smart little guy like [George] [are] travelin' together" (39). We can see that Slim admires Lennie's strength but thinks that Lennie is a crazy man. George gets a little defensive of this and states that Lennie is not crazy just flat out dumb. Slim just sits back and listens to what George has to say.

Here we go!
