2018 OMAM blog (C period)

In chapter six there is a very unusual turn of events, George kills Lennie. It all started when he starts to touch Curley's Wife's hair. when she tells him to let go he gets aggressive with her and accidentally breaks her neck. In one of the first chapters George tells Lennie that if he does anything bad that he go hide in the bushes so, that is what he did. Soon after George arrived. George raised the gun and steadied it, " ... he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie's head"(106). A minute later Lennie was dead. I wondered why George would do such a thing. I think that George had, had enough of Lennie and needed to have a life without the constant worry. I don't understand why they would talk about their dream right before he got killed. What do you think about this situation and what would you do if you were George in this situation?

I was wondering why people would call a woman by Curley's Wife. I know that back in the 1930's that women around America did not have a many rights as men. I thought that because Curley was the owners son that maybe his wife would have a different name. I was wrong. While talking to his friends in the bunkhouse, Candy said, "' That b- didn't oughtta of said that to you'" (82). By calling Curley's Wife a b-, it is saying that she is equivalent to a dog. In other words Candy was trying to demean her. I think that the reason that she is called Curley's Wife is because people (men on the ranch) think she is a "lesser" person then themselves. Why do you think she is called Curley's Wife?

Lennie and George have talked about their dream before. A 10 acre plot of land with a tiny windmill and an orchard. Most importantly Lennie can touch his rabbits and feed them alfalfa. They could gather food from the land like fish from a stream and have pigs for the smoker. Lennie said " We could live offa the fatta the lan'". Although I think this dream is very ambitious I think that with a little effort they could pull it off. This would give opportunities for both George and Lennie. I like this dream and I think that they should pursue it. How do you feel about their dream?

In part 2 of Of Mice and Men I think there are two main leaders. I think that the first one is George because he guides Lenny. He is almost a father figure to Lenny. When Lenny does something wrong George will step in and fix the problem with no hesitation. When the boss was talking about how Lenny doesn't speak that much, with no hesitation George said "...He got kicked in the head by a horse when he was a kid. He's alright..."(22). Although this was a lie it came off as a true statement to the land owner making Lenny have an easier time on the farm. This also shows confidence in George. The other leader is Curley because he is the king of the plantation. Although we have only met him for a couple of pages you can see his energy when he walks into a room. He is also the plantation owner's son which gives him a lot of power. As you can see there are two different people doing the same job, leadership.
